Additional MIDI controller as an E1 expander

Still dreaming of my proposed pure encoder (I guess the buttons wouldn’t even be needed) expander. The encoders are lovely, and I think having an enclosure with the same width would make a very unified combo with the e1mk2. One could envisage a mount/ears with the e1 on top at some angle, and the encoder expander directly underneath in a horizontal orientation.

Direct control of a whole page simultaneously. Then one could use the left buttons on the e1 for something more interesting than just flipping focus.

I would presume, by omitting the screen, that cost could be substantially reduced. If designed as a standard controller, it could be marketed as a high end, compact general purpose knob controller, something I do believe is something of a missing alternative in the midi controller market.

Then one could do one with Faders.

The newer faderfox boxes that have the same footprint as the elektrons are great, but uses potmeters and are somewhat expensive.

I for one love equipment that think of their product as part of a system. That’s why I love modulars, or the api500 system, as it gives a uniform sized footprint that makes placement and ergonomics great.

On that thought, I designed an aux-expander for my summing mixer, who’s faceplate/channel width lines up with my (Lindell) 10slot api rack. This way channels are lined up as on a real console.

A quick mock up on Yaeltex site for a custom 24 rotary encoder extension … almost €500, plus shipping and taxes

I guess, we are in the same boat. I’d love to bind CC and Channel to a specific already defined SysEx-related controls, so I could use external sequencers and controllers. I hope it is or will be possible without programming.
