Mk1 vs mk2

Hello there,
Considering I never got to learn in depth lua programming for the mk1 and therefore, don’t use it fully in depth;
that I need to replace the SD card because of the display issue;
that my screen on the bottom left has a 4mm little damage (that doesn’t affect functioning);
Should I still upgrade to mk2?
I know there was a discussion of getting the hardware upgraded by shipping it (I don’t feel capable of doing it), is that still an option?
I think mine was amongst the first hw versions…
Thank you for your time,
G

Although the mk1 and mk2 look similar, there is quite a difference in what they can do. Especially, regarding the complexity of presets and Lua scripting. It comes with a side effect, as there is more mk2s around, users often create new presets that will not run on mk1.

With the recent major firmware update for the mkII being finished, I’ll now spend some time focusing on the mk1 firmware. The goal is to bring in some mk2 features where possible and improve a few things based on what I’ve learned during mk2 development.

That said, don’t expect the mk1 to become a mk2, there are still fundamental hardware differences.

I’m also considering releasing an alternative firmware that would turn the mk1 into an extension of the mk2. This would allow a single preset to run across two controllers, giving you more knobs and the ability to display two pages at once.

Upgrades are possible. we always make some extra mainboards for upgrades in every batch. In general, if your controller has red/orange USB connectors, you can do the upgrade by yourself. If the connectors are black or white, soldering is needed. Not much, but we prefer to do that by ourselves. If your unit has some damage, we can service it or service-and-upgrage it. We have a stock of refurbished parts, and quite some of the repairs are done for free. Shipping needs to be paid though.

Using the mk1 as an extension to the mk2 would be awesome.
I’ve been trying to sell on my mk1 but no takers now that the mk2 is out. So having them both running as one would be ideal.
