Help, no Disk mode nor web editor connection

Hi. having problems with E1 happening after sending a preset from web editor. E1 starts up. but there is no connection to web editor and try to enable disk option (to delete problematic preset) doesn’t work, unit doesn’t show up on my mac anymore. I’ve tried to downgrade to v3.7 but problem persist. Then upgraded back to 4, i can see the problematic preset once again in preset menu. whatever i try doesn’t solve the problem. Any clue??

try to start the controller with the top-left button pressed (press the button before resetting/powering, and keep it pressed till the end of the start up animation). Does it start with no-preset loaded?

Hi Martin, thanks for your reply.

Yes, I’ve tried that. The E1 starts up with an empty preset, but still no connection to the web editor, and the disk unit can’t be mounted when I press “Enable USB Disk.” Right now, I only have the preset I’m working on saved in the E1, and it’s still there. This loss of connection has happened a few times before, but deleting the preset usually fixed it.

My E1 is connected through a MIO XL, and I’m also using a separate USB cable to connect it directly to the computer—neither setup connects to the web editor. When I try connecting it directly to the computer, the E1 doesn’t show up in the Mac’s MIDI configuration, and I can’t see its ports in the web editor either.

Is there anything else I could try?

hmm, try to open System Information app on your mac and check if the USB device is present there:

If not, your OS does is unable to enumerate the device.

Yes, it looks like the E1 still isn’t showing up. I’ve also tried connecting it to two other computers (a PC and a Mac)a nd different cables, but neither of them could detect the E1, whether in disk mode or regular USB mode (no midi ports in web editor). Seems like there might be something wrong with my unit. Is there anything else I could try to fix this?

Hey @martin, just wanted to add a bit more info about this error. I plugged my E1 back into a Windows computer, and checking the device manager, I can see there’s an error when it tries to connect. “Error requesting device descriptor”

Hi @manu,

when you connect E1 (a USB device) to a computer (USB Host), the USB host will request a device descriptor. That’s a data structure that describers capabilities, configurations, interfaces, and alike. It looks like that for some reason this is not happening in your case. The descriptors are implemented in the firmware. But, as the bootloader and the main firmware are two completely independent firmwares living in separate part of flash, I am thinking that the issue might be more likely in the hardware. I suggest to send the unit over to us for a review.
