Problems... problems... problems... :(

Hi all,

I own my E.1 for three or four years now. Unfortunately, I haven’t had much time to delve deeper into it yet, but now I finally want to take the time to do so, as we have a big gig coming up in the summer where I want to use the E.1. I installed the latest firmware (4.1.3, and I also updated the bootloader to 1.1). I want to control a few synths from my Arturia V-Collection with the E.1. So I downloaded the presets for the MiniFreak and the ARP2600 and got started again. And that’s when the simple problems began.

  1. The instructions state that you can pull down menus from the top left/center/right (including the main menu): “To open the main Menu, swipe down on the right side of the touchscreen. Swiping down from the center or left side opens different windows, which are described later in this chapter. You may notice small dotted indicators in the Status Bar — these indicate the touch zones (left, center, and right) for vertical swipe gestures.”
But I don’t have any mall dottet indicators!
What I have now discovered more by chance and through frustrating trial and error (without the small dots): You really have to swipe right and left directly at the edge.
The question is: Where are the dots for better matching with the manual?
  2. Example: I have the “MiniFreak V” software on MIDI channel 1 and “ARP2600 V” on MIDI channel 2. I can only load these two presets if I switch between the Controller/PresetSlots page and the Presets Library page and always select a new slot under Controller/PresetSlots.
With many presets, I always have to select a new preset slot beforehand?
  3. I thought I had a pretty good grasp of the concept of devices. But somehow I’m still having problems with it. Once I have my 3-5 presets on different slots on the E.1, how can I assign them the correct MIDI channel?

These are my biggest problems at the moment… I would be very grateful if anyone has any tips on how I can solve them.

Thank you!!!

Holger

[EDIT] Right after sending it, I wanted to keep trying, but swiping right isn’t working again! It’s really frustrating!!! :frowning:

The dots are really not there. I will make sure they are added back. I guess they disappeared when the firmware was extended with the support for Mini.

You can switch the preset on the device itself. Unless you changed the configuration, you press the rIght-bottom button (pages) and then right-middle (presets). The Overview | Electra One Documentation

Yes, you need to selected a preset slot where you will subsequently upload a preset. Otherwise you will be replacing the preset in the same slot. The Controller :: Preset slots is more of a convenience feature to have a quick overview of the presets loaded in the controller.

on mk2, channels are either set in the preset itself Preset Editor | Electra One Documentation , or you set them using the Devices in the Main menu: The Main Menu | Electra One Documentation

Ahhh, got it!

You really have to practice to get the swiping right, because you have to get the position and speed just right.

Ok, got this, too.

Now I currently only have one problem left:
When I have several presets in E.1 and switch between them using the right-bottom and right-middle, I don’t see the MIDI channel of the other presets when I swipeto the Devices (as shown in The Main Menu | Electra One Documentation ). Can you tell me why?

Thanks, Holger

Because Devices show what is defined in currently opened preset - One preset may have up to 32 (2x 16) different devices.

It was proposed here to make a view that would show channel assignments across the controller. I am considering it but it is not as straightforward as it may seem, like: shall it display assignments of currently running presets only, or all presets stored on the device, what it presets are configured to use the same channel and routing/switching is happenings elsewhere. Not saying I will not do something like that. It just feels that different types of users may have very different needs.

Hi Martin, thanks for your fast responses and explanations.

Ok. But then I’m still missing something somewhere…
Is only one preset active at a time, or can I use several presets simultaneously?

Or to put it another way:
I use several synths in the Arturia collection. That means I would like to use e.g. 5 synths actively at the same time. How can I make sure that all these presets are available to me simultaneously and how to change between them quickly? Then I wouldn’t just see one MIDI channel for the devices… right?

Thanks, Holger

Hi @C0d3man

I just thought I’d quickly jump in here if I can help… what DAW do you use , are you planning to use for your live performance?

Have you already investigated whether the E1 integrations for Live, Bitwig or Reaper would be more suitable for your use here ? https://electra.one/integrations

They all work with the DAW to switch tracks, or change the selected device etc. I know that the DrivenByMoss integration for Bitwig supports per-VST E1 presets (if the preset has the same name as the plugin in Bitwig).

Hi @Phommed

I think I will use Reaper (with Playtime2).

Thanks, good idea. I’ll take a closer look at that!

My first idea was simply to start the software (i.e., without DAW, which works with Arturia plugins) and assign them MIDI channels. However, this solution is not directly supported by E.1, right?
