DrivenByMoss for Bitwig and Reaper

Thanks for your non-stopping work on the Electra and so many controllers!

I finally upgraded. Huge improvement! All my qualms resolved. Thank you so much.

This is silly, I know, but just setting sensitivity to -100 makes me feel higher quality in the E1 hardware, and more value for the money.

I have also removed the touch combinations that I don’t use, reducing the risk of accidental screen switches. I am using the mouse less, and I’m starting to pay attention to what I still do with the mouse, and considering whether configuring an action would be better instead.

This is amazing. I’m so grateful, and this considering that a couple of months ago I was starting to reconsider things because for what I do, the E1 in Bitwig was doing too big jumps even at the slowest speed. Those amazing premium knobs weren’t producing an equally smooth experience in the software. Sensitivity -100 brings now the most of the knobs.

Suggestion: in the Transport page there is a Markers section and pressing a marker should play the transport directly.

Now the markers only work if Play is already playing. They don’t do anything if the transport is stopped. However, it makes sense to think that if a user is pressing a marker is because they want to listen to the project at the marker. Because the markers and the Play are in different sections and only one section can be active at a time, I find myself tapping markers - Play - markers too much and too often.

Enable “Launch”, which is the button left to the Play button.

Gasp! Works exactly as expected. It’s amazing how the brain can ignore a button next to another button.

Thank you very much!

Hi @moss ,

Love the plugin, and I have a very tricky request. As far as I can see, in Bitwig, when running a VST, it does not expose the VST changes.

This makes two-way communication impossible between the Electra and Bitwig. Well, unless I use the DrivenByMoss extension of course.

However I would really like to be able to use my own presets with VST devices, because that allows creating layouts, screens, and use the power of the presets and programming.

So I was thinking if there is there a way to make the Electra Bitwig extension do something like the following:

  1. listen to the changes in any plugin device on a track
  2. send those changes as CC messages to that track on channel 1

This way the messages can be routed to the Electra on a specific channel in Bitwig. Or maybe you have another suggestion or solution?

Ideally there would be a way to listen to these changes, but as far as I can see, in Bitwig you can only modulate the parameters of a Plugin device, not listen to the changing parameters. Or send them to an automation lane.

Not sure if I fully understood your question but in Bitwig you need to map the VST parameters to a Bitwig remote control parameter. Then to listen its changes you need to have a script/extension which sends them to the outside world.

Good time of the day,

Is it possible to make an option to change top right knob to control currently selected track instead of master? When I’m in device page and I tweak synth or effects I always change the track volume to mix it with the rest of track. Almost never need master volume.

Thank you!

Just wanted to say, after my E1 upgrade and me deciding to use Bitwig, this makes it a much better experience. The time you have spent making this compatible is truly appreciated. So thank you. Also good to see the E1 at Superbooth

Thank you @moss for adding this “Last parameter” option. Very interesting!

These days I’m getting deeper into the art of tapping knobs – a killer feature! There are two actions that I can’t find, and with so many options I don’t know whether I just missed them or they aren’t implemented:

  • Collapse / expand device (in the device panel, not “expand” as in showing the extra window in the arranger.
  • Show / hide remote controls in devices.

Hey.

Just got me Electra One and i am trying to get this to work, reaper see it i can connect the controller as said pr the installation guide.
The controller connects but the values are jumping when i turn lets say pan knob for track 1 it just jumps all over the place and then is always returning to the left… after few sec to a couple of min the controller freeze and i have to restart reaper and E1 for it to reconnect but still same behavior.

I attached a link with a video clip in that shows what happens on the E1 screen.

Hi, the DrivenByMoss uses relative controls. What I see in your video is as if the relative controls were interpreted as absolute controls - you have those abrupt changes to 127, etc and back to zero there. I’d say that something might not be configured right. Have you followed the installation guide? Maybe @moss knows?

EDIT I FIXED IT..
I had routed some stuff in the E1 router (thought i had reverted to normal) but that caused a midi feedback/loop

I do have another problem now and that is my controller freezes and i have to restart it @martin?

Yes i tried but might be me that is not really 100% knowing the E1 yet since i just got it  still extremely amazed by it but since its a bit deeper than our usual midi controllers i might have done something not right

i will go over it again and see if i have missed a step…

@martin do i set the relative/absolute in the E1?

But yes i just tried once more cleaned all and started fresh still same behavior sp @moss do you might know a solution or what it is i might have missed here?

Okay so i got it to stop jumping around but did not solve it all…
The controller freezes after 2min max and then i have to reboot the controller and reaper and then same behavior.

Is there something i am missing or am i just unlucky that my E1 is not capable of handling this …
I followed the steps (the jumping values was a setting in E1 i had created so easy fix)
But this freezing i have no clue where to start.

Anyone pointers or ideas on how i could fix this? @martin @moss

Could it be something with i have a quite extensive Realearn setup behind it all?
And some messeges maybe is being shared in the back?

I think that it is quite unusual what you get. I will try to reach jurgen through a different channel. I think he might be on holidays or something like that.

I think I have seen elsewhere that you also use VCV rack integration, that works ok on your controller?

Yeah the VCV one i got running, it was more about picking the right ins and outs… and the jumping back to 0 in the driven by moss i also fixed, that was me that had made a feedback loop in the midi routing of the E1… but the freezing thing there i must say i have no clue i have been over what i could see might cause it and nothing works…
specially because i dont use any other control surfaces, i have made a quite extensive Realearn setup with my steamdeck but since when using the drivenbymoss the controller is not active in reaper as a controller i have a hard time seeing that should cause the freeze…

Do you forward traffic from The USB interfaces to MIDI IO ports? When there is heavy traffic on USB forwarding to MIDI may stall things. Check the router settings and if not needed, try disabling it.

I have no routing setup at this point, just been running over usb.
