@martin - is there any possibility that you could open up access to the internal storage or to an external USB drive? Even if internal access was limited to something like a 2 Mb partition or something that would help.
The E1 has become so versatile and one thing missing is some basic patch storage to be able to take the E1 live or use it standalone.
