Wireless: Bluetooth and Battery in future hardware

I want to get rid of all wires.

Adding Bluetooth for controlling midi devices and also the editor would be useful.

Ability to run off standard size rechargeable batteries would also be useful. This would avoid issues with shipping batteries.

Maybe in a future Mini 2.

Either would bet appreciated if you could only provide one of:

  • internal bluetooth
  • an internal compartment/recharger for the removable battery

I think you could add a bluetooth midi adapter like the ones from CME to the USB port or through a HUB. That way youd have bluetooth midi on your E3. Havent tried but dont see how it wouldnt work.

You could add a powerbank, big one considering its draw i guess. Not sure if this is considered ok in general, some gear state they dont want to run from PB’s for some reason but dont understand how it would damage anything, maybe some stuff becomes unpredictable when voltage drops too much but hey

I already have the E1 setup with Widi and Powerbank … and it works (except the editor).

The issue is that leads to a three piece contraption that is hard to keep together. I’ll figure away to package these together in my own jury rigged manner, but it’s huge drop in ease of use and portability. It’s a remote control. Imagine if your TV or garage remote control had an external wireless connector and an external battery.

So much easier if BLE and/or Battery were built-in … or the E1 had space or some sort of holder for them.

I considered and tested both BLE and a battery while prototyping the MK2 and Mini. Both fit nicely in the MK2, but they would have increased the cost and required additional certifications. There was no way to fit them into the Mini. We therefore decided not to include either in the final product, especially since both can be connected to the controller externally.

Editor does not work over the BLE for you?

@martin Here was the original report with some more detail: E1 Editor Accessible via BLE Midi?

It’s possible it might be an issue/restriction with my Chrome?
