Firmware v4.1.3 for mk2/mini

Firmware version 4.1.3 has just been released.

The app.electra.one web application now provides an option to update the mk2 and mini controllers to version 4.1.3.

The update brings several important fixes. It is strongly recommended to update your controllers.

V4.1.3 CHANGE LOG

  • Improved knob reading to prevent dead zones in tight value-range conversions.

  • Adjusted knobs to span their full value range over ~270 degrees. Pots with narrow ranges and pots set to the encoder mode, stay as they were.

  • Forced to use 512 bytes USB transfers for HS USB Interface on Teensy 4.x.

  • Fixed random freezes while using VCV Rack.

  • mk2 Fixed graphic glitches on the Performance page.

  • mk2 Corrected labels on Reboot and Sleep buttons on the Menu page. They were swapped.

  • Mini Adjusted screen gamma curves to improve the brightness of darker colours.

  • Mini Resolved an issue where the context buttons were overwritten by the preset buttons.

  • Mini Improved the visual style of all control types. Added value to the dials.

  • Mini Added support for XY pad.

  • Mini Added a Back button to the System page.

  • Mini Made it possible to change the value of all List controls by pressing the knob.

  • Mini Fixed preset slot assignments in banks 2 - 5.

I would like to say thank you to all of you for reporting issues and sharing ideas. I listened carefully and tried to resolve as many of them as I could. Issues reported, but not included in this release, will be worked on starting tomorrow (@Mint-Gecko @klaustrophil)

For now, it was important to make sure there are no big defects. I did not work on any of the features proposed here on the forum. Again, they are on my list and I will start thinking about them or working on them from now on.

The 4.1.3 is a big step for me. It is the first truly cross-device firmware. It may happen that some of the mk2 functionality could be affected. mk2 users, if you notice anything strange, let me know.

The firmware update comes together with the web application update. There are no big changes any more. Info on the web editor update will be provided in a separate post.

@martin After several attempts I can’t get past this point in the update. Note I’m running v1.0. Thanks

restart the bootloader, open the disk mode and try remove the older fw files. You can just delete them, they are available online. When removed, restart the controller to the bootloader again.

I have deleted the two oldest (with same result), should I delete 4.1.2 as well?

yup, do that. maybe, remove even the 4.1.3. The restart the controller, then restart to the bootloader and copy fresh 4.1.3 there.

No joy. Deleted all versions from the boot folder. Rentered bootloader and placed 4.1.3.src into boot folder. Restarted. Clicked on blue icon. No update progress after 5 minutes. Restarted. Replaced 4.1.3 with 4.1.2. It appeared to install without a problem, but then the E1 went blank and won’t power back on.

but you can still start the bootloader now?

Oh shit. In my haste I downloaded the mini 4.1.2!!! My fault, but to be honest the web page has them not well separated.

No. the E1 is playing dead.

Presume I have to locate the SD card. Instructions?

There’s there the controller name in the filename  But I will make a separate page for each controller.

Do not worry. It can be fixed.

that means, when you keep the right-bottom button pressed, while connecting the cable, the bootloader does not start? Do I understand that correctly?

I forgot the while powering on part. Thanks. I deleted the mini 4.1.2, and replaced it with mk2 4.1.2.

But mk2 v4.1.3 still refuses to install.

I just tried what you did and it recovered no problem. ie.

  1. flashed wrong image (mini instead mk2)
  2. electra went blank (cos it cannot talk to diffeent LCD)
  3. started booloader uploaded mk2 firmware, updated
  4. electra back working.

so, you can install 4.1.2 but not the 4.1.3? It hangs at that point before the progress bar should be moving?

Correct. 4.1.2 no problem: progress bar moves along. 4.1.3 problem: progress bar does not advance.

EDIT: Problem solved after updating to bootloader to v1.1.

Thanks so much for the update. I immediately recognized some of the improvements like…

The value now helps a lot. I tried switching from the “Default” to the “Dial” option. However, the graphical display of the value in the outer ring still doesn’t work with reduced value ranges. I hope this will be added.
