E1 Mk II external MIDI control: are two different routings mandatory for Remote Knobs and MIDI Control?

Hi all! I’ve looked through most similar topics, but could not find the answer to this specific question.

With the latest FW and web app for E1 MkII there are two tabs in the Controller settings menu: MIDI Control and Remote Knobs.

I tried to use an external MIDI controller to control some of the E1 “grid controls” on the Remote Knobs page via external encoders and faders, while also controlling some of the functions (like page flipping) via the same external controller’s buttons.

The issue I ran into is the following: originally, my external midi controller was connected to the USB Host, and the Routing rule for the Remote Knobs was set to USB Host.

However, when I decided to use its buttons to control functions, and created the same Routing rule on the MIDI Control page - it didn’t work. The only way I was able to make it work for both Remote Knobs and MIDI Control is to connect it… twice to my E1)) Via USB Host and via the MIDI In.

Is this normal behavior? Can it be corrected, so that we could use the same midi Routing rule for both remote knobs and MIDI control? Because there are MIDI controllers that could have just one connection method (e.g. just the USB MIDI), in which case such controllers would not work with E1 for both remote knob control and MIDI Control.

My external controller is M-Vave SMC Mixer, it’s pretty cheap and basic, but it allows to assign user MIDI commands to all of its controls (faders, encoders and buttons), and works pretty well for its price. Luckily, it supports both USB Midi and BLE Midi, so I used both USB Host and a 5PIN BLE MIDI Dongle into my E1 MIDI IN port, but I feel like it’s a bit cumbersome this way.

Any thoughts?
